Microsoft clarified patent claims to Open Source

Yesterday, it was announced that the consolidated software violates 235 Microsoft patents ( Habré topic ).

Today, Microsoft clarified its claims .

So, according to Microsoft Linux, 42 of their patents are affected, graphical interfaces affect 65, email programs - 15, and other programs - 68. Microsoft also noted that open source programs supported by Sun Microsystems affect 45 patents. Sun does not comment on the statement.

However, Microsoft does not want lawsuits, but wants to "just license" its patents. In fact, intimidating others and forcing businesses to pay, but without risking that patents will be invalidated in court.

Currently, Novel customers are protected from Microsoft claims, with which Microsoft signed a secret agreement this fall on non-prosecution of each other’s clients in patent cases.
