Spider-robot, which itself learns to walk

An American student studying electrical engineering at the University of Arizona, Matt Banding designed a spider robot that learns to walk. The robot is based on the Intel Atom Z530 processor with a frequency of 1.6 GHz, chipset US15W, and is running Ubuntu.

The robot does not have permanent memory, so every time it is turned on, it learns to walk again, associating the change in image from the webcam with the movement on the legs. If, for any reason, the robot loses a limb, the balance is overestimated, and the robot changes the mode of movement.
According to the author of the robot, he sees the use of such a robot in various search and rescue operations. “If it was a search-and-rescue robot and if he lost a leg as a result of a landslide, he would not know how to move on, because it is not provided by the program. However, if a robot could learn to walk on its own, then it could walk on five limbs, ”says Matt Banding.
After the video about the robot appeared on Youtube, the inventor was offered a job and a laboratory by several technology companies. Intel provided the necessary equipment to create two more robots, one of which the company will use to demonstrate the possibilities of using its chips, and the second inventor can keep it.
