On the nose, the opening of the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, and all progressive humanity in Europe, Asia and other continents has long seen such shows in the most beautiful HDTV format on their televisions.
In Russia, up to now, HD was launched only on the European part of the country, and therefore, starting from Novosibirsk and further east, mere mortals could see real HD only with the help of Blu-ray and torrents.

Just a couple of days ago, under the auspices of Channel One and the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, the digital channel
2 Sport 2 was launched in Moscow, which will broadcast the entire 2010 Olympics live in HD. The most interesting is that the
information about the
broadcast of the TV channel 2 Sport 2 HD from the satellite ABS-1 , which is in position 75E, was transmitted. The figure below shows his coverage map:

As you can see, this satellite covers most of our country, it will allow mere mortals to finally merge into the world of modern high-definition television :)
For comparison, satellite coverage map at position 36E:

After the 2010 Olympics, the Victory Parade will be shown for the first time in high definition, and there will be Eurovision as well, as it is planned to show the World Cup.
Everything would be fine if it were not for one thing. At the moment, there is no channel or even his tests from the above satellite. Perhaps we will not see the opening live, but we would like to hope and firmly believe that most of the Olympics will be shown to us in HD from the ABS-1 satellite.
Wikipedia - 2 Sport 2UPD: The Olympics are over, the broadcast on the expected satellite has not appeared.
BUT! At the beginning of March 2010, the new Continental TV satellite TV platform was launched, whose managers promise to start showing HDTV by the end of 2010. In addition to the European part of the country, the signal will go to Siberia and the Far East. Cross your fingers.
