Opera Mini, the world's most popular mobile browser, has reached an important milestone: according to data for January 2010, the number of its active users has exceeded 50 million people. This milestone proves the popularity of Opera Mini - users choose Opera browser due to its functionality and unique features.

In recent years, Opera Mini has experienced an unprecedented increase in popularity in all regions. In just one year, the number of browser users increased by 150% - from 20 million in January 2009 to 50 million in January 2010. These indicators take into account only users who are actively working with a browser on the Internet.

Opera Mini is a small and easy-to-use browser that runs on most mobile phones and uses server-based data compression technology. Thanks to this technology, the traffic downloaded to users' phones is compressed to 90% of the initial volume, increasing the speed of work on the Web and reducing the cost of the mobile Internet.

According to analytical company Gartner, by 2013, mobile phones will become the primary means of accessing the Internet, which computers are today. This forecast explains the rapid growth in popularity of Opera Mini in recent months. It took 28 months to attract the first 10 million users of Opera Mini (from January 2006 to April 2008). And the growth from 40 to 50 million users occurred in just three months.

“The main task of Opera Mini is to make the Internet accessible to everyone, regardless of the network capacity of the operator or the mobile phone model. A target of 50 million unique users per month is a good start towards this goal, ”says Lars Boilesen, chief executive officer of Opera Software.
