Linux is effective (Part I)

Six months ago, I switched to Linux. But now I don’t want to start a regular holivar about three families of user operating systems, I’ll just tell you what I’m doing in Linux easier than in Windows Vista Ultimate or Mac OS X 10.4.7, or both.
I’ll say right away that this is entirely true for Ubuntu 7.04, to which I recently switched from OpenSuSE 10.2.


Part I.

1. Software installation.
   Almost all programs are in the Ubuntu repositories on the Internet, or directly on the installation DVD. To install, just tick the program in the package manager, and it will install. You can argue about the advantages and disadvantages of php, but if you write on it, Linux is the best choice.
4. Customize the look for yourself.
   Here, too, Linux ahead. Absolutely everything is customizable. You can achieve the appearance of whist, makos and their ilk. A huge number of gorgeous themes and tools to create your own. Separate conversation - graphic effects. At the moment, the beryl package provides all the capabilities of whists and macos (three-dimensional table, blur, transparency, animation effects, etc.), and unlike competitors, everything is configured to trifles.
5. Listening to music.
   Players can work with a profile on last.fm, listen to its radio, podcast feeds, receive information about tracks from the Internet, perform searches, dynamically update the library, etc.
6. Convert video.
   I need to compress the video on the phone. Instead of the cracked SmartMovie, an excellent utility iriverter is used here, which can quickly compress to 320x240 with the specified bitrate.
