Fujitsu promises to increase HDD recording density five times
According to Nikkei Weekly (subscription required), Fujitsu made a statement about plans to introduce a newly developed technology into production before the end of 2009, which will increase the recording density on hard drives five times compared to current production samples. Despite the already widespread use of the perspective perpendicular recording method, such progress cannot but seem surprising.
Fujitsu’s current HDD HDD race, which began last year, still lags behind, although it has several successful high-capacity portable drives in its track record. And now, with the help of its new technology, it will try to win its share of success primarily from corporate users, where it stably holds second place after Seagate, as well as in the drive sector for laptops.
In the most massive HDD sales sector for desktops, Fujitsu still misses almost all of its competitors.
