Windows Phone 7 - a portion of rumors on the eve of the announcement
Let me remind you that Microsoft is going to announce its new OS for mobile devices at the MWC in Barcelona on February 15, but for now there are some incomprehensible leaks, such as today. As I understand it, some people from the administration of mobile sites received emails with some details about the future OSes. The news was written in Engadget , referring to PPCGeeks and MobileTechWorld . The first ones claim that the information is closest to the truth and in general everything is unrealistically cool, the second ones modestly copy-paste the body of the letter, which I will translate because there are most of the facts.
WP7 will be announced on WMC, but only a demo of the interface will be shown, no real devices.
WP7 supports Silverlight (outside the browser) and XNA, which will develop applications under XNA GameStudio 3.1
Silverlight applications will be developed in Expression Blend 3.x and VS2010
Mobile versions and a free addon for PC versions of progs will be released for Visual Studio and Expression Blend.
The OS will have the equivalent of the .NET Compact Framework built into Silverlight, but without SQL support.
The system will have isolated ROM with access via LINQ
The interface will be based on a theme called “Metro” and is similar to Zune HD, but with a completely new start screen.
The OS will not support multitasking, applications will “fall asleep” in the background, but there will also be support for Push-notifications for which their environment will be created
There is no backward compatibility with .NET CF, but part of the data and functional algorithms (so-called “business logic”) can be ported from .NET CF
Microsoft is counting on the emergence of new devices by September 2010
The company will not have its own MS-background, but they promise stricter production control, so that all devices will have a 3D accelerator, for which MS will provide the drivers. This will make an over-the-air (OTA) upgrade possible and make life easier for ODM / OEMs.
Marketplace will have a trial application system.
ODM / OEMs will not be able to modify the start screen, that is, you will have to forget about interfaces like Sense or Touch Flo
Microsoft is ahead of schedule, which will surprise analysts and journalists
The browser is built on IE7 with some functionality from IE8, and it is more convenient / faster than the browser on the iPhone 3G, and the company aims to compete with 3GS
Flash and Silverlight not supported in browser
The OS is fully integrated with XBox Live, including the ability to buy games
For multimedia, Zune software will be used.
The OS only supports installing applications via services (for example, the marketplace), no third-party installers such as existing cabs
Translator's note =)
As you may have noticed, some of the rumors that were before are repeated and may be true. Of course, you should not take everything seriously, but if even a part of this is justified, then the company really has some strange look at mobile devices. Multitasking and versatile sources of applications were one of the advantages of VM, besides, the system still has the most extensive software base (albeit at times crooked, but working), and apparently the company wants to cut off all this by making an iPhone OS. I myself am looking forward to MWC, because the time has come to change my VM device and I still hope for a miracle, but I am afraid that it will not happen, and Microsoft will go into a completely different sphere of mobile devices.
Ps. So far, of all the devices on the market, I tend to the Nokia N900.
