Internet nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize

The editors of the Italian edition of Wired nominated the Internet for the Nobel Peace Prize. This year, a dissident from China, Liu Xiaobo, as well as a Russian human rights activist, a member of the board of the Memorial center Svetlana Gannushkina, will have to compete for the title of the main peacemaker of the planet along with the Internet.

The advancement of the Internet was supported by Shirin Ebadi, the Nobel laureate of the 2003 Peace Prize. Wired believes that the Internet has had a tremendous impact on the spread of democracy throughout the world and must therefore be rewarded. The publication also promises to launch a large-scale campaign in support of the worldwide network.

Winner of the Peace Prize in 2010 will determine the fall of this year, and the award will be held in December. Last year, the prize winner was US President Barack Obama.
