Last Friday, the Danish Parliament, with the support of the Minister of Science, ordered that the
Open Document Format (
ODF ) be used to store its documents from April 2011. This decision does not affect the regional or local authorities, decisions will come later. This Tuesday, the Danish parliament will approve the agreement, although this is just a formality, as representatives of all parties already this Friday gave a signal for their consent.
Thus, Microsoft, with its
OOXML (
Office Open XML ), is losing ground in the European Union more and more, as countries such as Belgium, France, Sweden and Lithuania now require the use of ODF for documents. The result, however, will not necessarily be the rapid spread of Open Office, since the main rival of Microsoft Office 2007 SP2 and the forthcoming Office 2010 also support the ODF format.
