NIXP.RU v3.0 Beta - portal for UNIX / Linux / FLOSS enthusiasts
We finally made it! Probably many enthusiasts from the UNIX-, GNU / Linux-systems and Open Source know the good old resource nixp.ru , which was launched back in 2002 (and in the third level domain - in 2001). For a long time, it was not really updated, but a couple of years ago we got together, everyone rethought and took up the slow development. Today we come to the first public milestone, which received in our timeline the name “v3.0 Beta”.

“The new version of NIXP.RU - v3.0 - not only expanded the functionality of the site and brought a new design, but was also created with the idea of changing the paradigm of the resource itself, turning it into a socially oriented portal. These innovations introduced on NIXP.RU, such as comments, tags and polls for all available objects (news, articles, recipes, programs, links), are designed to contribute to the development and cohesion of the Russian-speaking Open Source-community. In preparing the new design of NIXP.RU, the concept of “rigorous Web 2.0” was applied, the main idea of which was a combination of the classic design of information publications and modern trends in social web resources. ”
Briefly about the technologies used: symfony , Prototype, PHPUnit + Selenium. Read more - here . In addition, my favorite Perl was used with might and main for converting heaps of old data from old nixp.ru stored in plain text :-)
PS And yes, we also shot something like a documentary about the development process by opening the site. It lit up all who worked on the project: vimeo.com/9110380
