Multitouch in Wacom interactive displays: a new evolution?

At the conference, Interactive Tabletops and Surfaces 2009, Wacom , the recognized leader in the production of tablets, presented a prototype of a new 21 ”interactive display (in other words, a“ tablet with a screen ”) with multitouch technology.

On a demo it is quite difficult to assess the benefits of multitouch - well, he smears his fingers, well, cool. In fact, perhaps the emergence of multitouch in Cintiq is a new round of interface development between the artist / designer and the program.

Wacom has already tried multitouch on Bamboo Touch (& Pen) recently released junior tablets - I didn’t use it myself, but judging by the article by Roman Genyaviy, you should at least get used to touch functions, otherwise they are not performed at all at the moment when I want to.

But I didn’t want to write about that - multitouch is undeniably cool for web surfing, but it seems unjustified to use it in drawing, because its functions for photoshop, such as pan, zoom or rotate, are easier to perform on the keyboard, which most people have left hand while working with the tablet. Actually, all my complaints about the buttons on the tablet are connected with this - I don’t know who uses them, because the tablet buttons do not allow performing most of the keyboard hotkeys. And my claims to Cintiq are also connected with this - using a tablet screen with a keyboard becomes harder to work, yet the hot keys greatly speed up the work.

This is where multitouch comes to mind. And what if we can draw with one hand and just poke with the other on the screen?
The problem, however, arises when the right hand with a pen can be recognized as a touch, but I hope that this can be solved at the driver level (for example, by restricting the sensitive area to some areas or not recognizing an area close to the pen, or something else any such)

Adobe Labs has an interesting video on this topic: at 3:50, using an Air application to select a color with one hand directly on the screen, a person draws the other.

I’m really looking forward to the appearance of these new Cintiqs, because if Wacom succeeds and the driver can flexibly customize the use of multitouch functions, then designers, artists and sympathizers will be able to increase their productivity quite strongly.
