ESET and the extension of NOD32 from a neighboring state

Recently I have expired license for home ESET NOD32 Antivirus. Since the last time NOD32 is not a cake at all, I decided not to buy an extension - in this case I will have enough free antivirus solutions, at the same time I will save some money. So I thought, if I don’t give my license to any of my friends who wants to buy NOD32 at 40% cheaper. One of the friends wanted to accept this small gift, so I deleted NOD32 with the not-yet-expired license, and sent him my credentials.
And then the strange began ...

It turns out that a friend cannot buy updates on my license. The fact is that I bought a box from ESET in my Kharkov (Ukraine), and a friend now works and lives in Moscow. He tried to pay for the extension using the Qiwi system, was refused. He contacted ESET in support, after which he received the following reply by e-mail: “The license (license code) is not Russian - it cannot be extended. You can purchase a new license. ”

It turns out that if I myself went to Moscow and decided to extend my NOD32, being there, I would be refused, or I would have to resort to some tricks to pretend that I am in Ukraine.

The question arises: why, except out of greed, ESET creates an extra border for a user between two neighboring states?
')
This is all very strange, because ESET is a European company, and there the states are small, and it is the norm of life when people live in the border areas in one state and work in the neighboring one.

Sim send a bundle of evil in the direction of ESET, and mobile people, if they have to spend a long time on business trips or traveling in private, it is better not to purchase products with such surprises.

UPD. I’ll clarify that a friend tried to buy an update through the ESET online store, which was refused before choosing a payment system, and then through qiwi I bought a new license.
