micro-SIM: the devil is not so bad

For those who followed Apple’s tablet release (and paid attention to such a trifle ), it’s no secret that the iPad in 3G and GPS configuration will work with cards that are still unfamiliar with micro-SIM (3FF). At the time of the presentation, Google did not know anything about them, it is now replete with links to the iPad theme, and an article appeared in Wikipedia.

At first, I thought it was such a new mechanism for an operator and a tariff plan (still, I would not give up on no-limit at home or on a laptop for $ 30 , instead of the usual $ 60 ). To some extent it is, but not everything is so bad: the micro-SIM has the same pad as the usual mini SIM:

The red garbage in the center is a microsymbol, crocheted from a mini-sim card, which, in turn, is picked out from an old full-size card.

Under the cut there is another picture showing the comparison of the micro-SIM with the usual sim card.

and, of course, the iPad claims support for quad-band GSM / EDGE (and some even shout that we almost never have 3G anywhere)

In general, there is every reason to hope that the new miracle of the field of distortion of reality  will be compatible with the usual sims at the file level.

In general, I have already started sharpening scissors;)

PS Here is another picture with form factor standards:

from Fonearena

There is no information as to whether the format implies any changes in the interface or functionality of the card.

PPS thanks for the karma, moved to the Apple blog
