IFPI lost the case against Baidu search engine

In 2008, the world's largest record companies, namely Sony BMG, Universal Music and Warner Music, demanded $ 9 million from Baidu.com for the fact that the Chinese search engine provides direct links to download mp3 files. The case lasted a long time, but now the court ruled that the largest Chinese search engine does not do anything illegal.

Baidu.com, the largest in China and one of the world's largest search engines, has become popular thanks to its indexing of mp3 files (of course, in 99% of cases of illegal ones) stored on foreign resources. The Baidu database contains millions of links to mp3 tracks.
The justification for Baidu has always been that they do not store any of the illegal files.
The IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, involved both in the Okink case and the pirate bay case, and in general there are many evil things) did not agree with this order of things and filed a lawsuit against Baidu.

“China’s music industry wants to cooperate with technology services companies, but the partnership cannot be based on systematic copyright infringement. Therefore, we are ready to take special measures. ”- John Kennedy, the current head of the IFPI, said pathetically in 2008.
')
By measures, Mr. Kennedy, of course, meant a trial. IFPI (represented by Sony BMG, Universal Music and Warner Music) demanded $ 9 million from Baidu. And only yesterday the results of the case became known.

The court acquitted the search engine, considering that simply providing links does not violate any of the laws of China. According to a lawyer named Sun Yan, the IFPI lost the case because they could not provide information on exactly where the illegal files are hosted.

This is not the first time Baidu has done IFPI. A similar story was in 2005, but then Baidu was accused not of his technology of indexing mp3 files as a whole, then the case concerned two hundred specific mp3 tracks.
