AdWords caught up with "Runner"

Agency iConText announced its assessment of the volume of the contextual advertising market in Russia: in 2009 it amounted to 9.61 billion rubles, which means a 13% increase in rubles compared to the previous year. Against the backdrop of falling display advertising, this is a good indicator.

Yandex.Direct (7.5 billion) remains the absolute leader with 78% of the market, but an interesting rearrangement has taken place among the followers. Google’s revenue grew by as much as 50% to 1.01 billion, so it was almost on par with Runner’s (1.10 billion).

These companies control 10% and 11% of the market, respectively.

In 2010, iConText analysts expect growth of 20-25% in rubles compared to the previous year, so the market volume will be about 12 billion. In their opinion, Google with the AdWords system will be able to finally outrun the Russian company Begun in terms of turnover.

In addition, this year, analysts expect an increase in the number of advertisers in the context, first of all, at the expense of large retailers (online trading). It is also noted that the likelihood of the emergence of new players is great, that is, new contextual advertising systems.

The main trend of the next year in the field of contextual advertising will be an increase in interest in tracking efficiency, which will lead to the fact that the context will be sold on the basis of PPA (pay per action).
