Another cellular fraud - the older generation at gunpoint

The older generation, for whom the development of new technologies and the inclusion in the digital environment is much more painful than that of the young, is at risk. Not surprisingly, our parents are often the victims of scammers on the Internet and cellular networks, which is very disappointing and rageful. I ask Hubs in advance to excuse me if this information is no longer new (I did not find a quick search for this on Habré) and for the material is not quite in the format of Habr, but I consider it wrong to treat such cases indifferently.

So, my mother was the victim of the following fraud: the person who called her cell phone introduced himself with a sonorous last name and commanding voice said that her number was being transferred to other equipment, ordered to find out the state of balance and enter an asterisk and a certain sequence of numbers (* 145 is the beginning of the combination to transfer money to another subscriber’s account), then delete his call and operator’s messages and turn off the phone. Of course, the money from the account disappeared (well, at least the amount was small). It was the requirement to remove the call and all the SMS gave my mother suspicion, and she reported the incident to me, otherwise she would not have noticed the loss of money at all. Of course, I advised her to report on the cellular operator.
Most likely, the scammer acted purposefully on the subscriber database and selected the phones of the elderly. I strongly advise everyone to instruct their parents and relatives and explain that any actions related to maintenance on the operator’s side do not require the participation of the subscriber, and any communication with the subscriber takes place only through the operator’s official communication channels and certainly not with his voice.
