I faced her a long time ago when I had to make a gift to a friend. By the way, the first time I saw the idea in the album James Blunt
I think cool guys did.
At first, the idea seemed simple to me: many small pictures, and one big one with transparency.
Well, I took a photoshop, took a big photo of my friend, took out a bunch of her and photos with me and started to sculpt. I must say, comrades, this is terrible. First, all the pictures are different in size, and fitting them all under the squares did not affect them well.
Secondly, the quality and illumination of all the pictures are different and as a result it turned out that I immediately deleted it and began to peer at my prototype, that is, the cover of the singer.
And so, I saw that it turns out that there is no his photos with transparency. And this is just a lot of his photos, clearly and painstakingly arranged in colors, with different shades, gamma, brightness and contrast. It struck me because I could not believe that this was done by human hands. Well, we are Russian people and the search is not alien to us. After a while, I came across Andrea Mosaic on the net. Unfortunately, that photo I have not survived, and for the sake of confidentiality, I would not spread it.
But I want to show you the last thing I did - this is a gift for the 3rd anniversary of the music portal, a logo consisting of albums.

But enough examples, having on your computer at least a few pictures - you yourself can already do such things.
I will show you the best program interface. He, fortunately, and to my surprise - the simplest.

Drag (or select at the top right) the file on the working field. Expose modes, I mean: the size, the size of each piece, their number, what you can do with the pieces (rotate, reflect, change the brightness or contrast, etc.), press Select Tiles - choose a bunch of photos (the program itself will select the most suitable color) click Create Mosaic, wait depending on the number of photos and the size of your sample, but on average it is from 2 to 10 minutes. (agree, not so much for such meticulous work)
And in the end you get a beautiful image.
