One of the largest (not only in Russia, but throughout Europe) TETRA networks are now being erected along the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus

Do you know what a trunked radio communication system , and in particular, the TETRA network?
If you don’t know (and I myself only found out this morning), then you can read about it on Wikipedia in Russian or in English (I recommend English: there’s a more detailed article).

In short, this is a mobile radio standard specifically designed for negotiations between government intelligence agencies, emergency response services, police, firefighters, ambulances, railway workers and other transport workers, as well as the military. As such, TETRA provides fast communication (less than half a second), considerable distance from the base station (several kilometers), the possibility of negotiations between subscribers in the absence of a base station, as well as working at high speeds (over 400 km / h).
Last year, Open Systems mentioned that when preparing for the 2014 Olympics, such a network will be deployed in the west of the Krasnodar Territory, and will cover not only Olympic facilities, but also all settlements and highways far to the north-west from Sochi - to home of Anapa. But this is a quarter of a thousand kilometers! You can measure yourself with a ruler in Wikimapia , for example.

And here are the first steps of the ongoing construction . Optical fiber from Anapa to Sochi (with a branch from Dzhubga to Krasnodar) is laid in 2010 through the very Gelendzhik, from which I write all this to Habrahabr.
But in that fiber - gigabits and gigabits! Who knows: maybe, not only the newly created Tetroi will be used, but also the population will somehow get something .
