Firefox browser is preparing to enter the mobile platform

Mitchell Baker, senior executive director of the Mozilla Foundation, announced the company's plans to release a mobile version of its browser, noting that this would be a long-term project. “We decided that now it’s best for us to deal with mobile technology and see what we need to do with the core of our technology for the best possible implementation of the browser for the mobile platform,” Baker said.

Regarding the current work with the mobile platform, Baker said the following: “Now we are experimenting, but these experiments are more focused on PCs than on mobile phones. We explore the work of Firefox users with their cell phones. We know that people like Firefox because of the various plug-ins, the ability to customize the browser "by itself", as well as the ability to get the information users need using Firefox and its add-ons. As part of our project, called “Joey”, we are exploring ways to deliver information, which is most often searched by users, to mobile devices. It is clear that you can go online or use SMS ... but what else can you do? If you have Firefox, then you have the opportunity to customize it and get only the information you are interested in. We want to give the user the same tools for his mobile phone. ” It seems that the Mozilla Foundation browser will be, like Opera Mini, a server solution, but so far the project is under development.

Recall that about a month ago, Doug Turner (Doug Turner), head of development at Minimo (a Mozilla-based browser), said he was not going to devote more time to developing this browser. Turner, explained that the project will be reoriented to Firefox users and will take on those features that do not require the development of the browser completely and can be created and implemented on mobile phones in a few months, not years.
