PayPal payment system froze the financial assets of the site Wikileaks.org, one of the activists of this organization said on Twitter. As is known, this is the largest online platform for the publication of compromising material: there are already 1.2 million documents. Through PayPal, donations were collected.
For the second time, PayPal freezes a Wikileaks.org account. Last time, it took more than half a year to deal with the situation. How much conflict will continue now is unknown, but without financial support the site simply cannot continue to exist (about $ 600,000 per year are needed for salary and hosting). Now the service is partially suspended, only a form for downloading new documents remains.
Wikileaks guarantees complete anonymity to users who publish information here. For this purpose, a network of Tor anonymizers is supported, as well as Freenet and PGP. Logs are not kept, and the location of Wikileaks servers is unknown. Thus, it is difficult to attack the site using standard methods, especially since it has many mirrors around the world. But financially “put” the service turned out to be much easier. It is possible that this was the result of someone’s political decision. ')
