Facebook's first data center

Yesterday, Facebook representatives flew to the small town of Prineville, pc. Oregon to participate in the solemn ceremony to bookmark the data center. Construction will be big. When Harvard students opened their website in 2004 on the same server, they clearly did not expect that in a few years they would have to build such a building with an area of 1.37 hectares (that is, approximately 170 by 80 meters).

Until now, Facebook has leased computing power from other companies, but now is the time when it is more cost-effective to build its own data center.

Thus, Facebook will probably become the biggest startup that allowed itself to build a data center. Yes, from a technical point of view, Facebook is still a startup, albeit with $ 750 million in venture capital investments and 350 million registered users.

Oregon is a great place for data centers, with cheap electricity and a good climate. It also hosts similar capacities of many other companies, including Amazon and Google, so most of our personal information is already in Oregon, and soon it will become even more.

The local press writes that 200 local residents will be involved in the construction, and the construction will end in a year. After commissioning, 35 people will work in the data center.
