In addition to third-party file managers in Mac OS X, which are rather poorly integrated with the system and replace the Finder (with the exception, perhaps, of the
Path Finder - it is quite far in this respect), you can use the usual Finder :)
For a couple of months already
TotalFinder exists - a plug-in for a finder working through SIMBL, which allows a little to expand the capabilities of the file manager.
By the way, the author of this plugin is a person who has proven himself
Visor 'om (Quake-like Terminal.app).

Pros, cons, pitfalls, screenshots, download - under Habrakat.
Of the benefits:• integration into the system. The real integration is the same file system, only better.
• tabs (thanks to the source code for Chromium)
• the ability to disable cluttering of folders (local, yes, yes!) With .DS_Store files - they will be thrown into a separate folder.
• folders on top! first folders alphabetically, then files alphabetically. not by type, like a
crutch with plists and localizations, but alphabetically!
• Faynder can appear on the screen by pressing the hot keys.
In future:• two-panel a la Total Commander
• MacFUSE support
Of the minuses:• payment in the future. while alpha, and then (in beta / release) will be paid.
• Requirements: Mac OS X 10.6+ and SIMBL
• Folders at the top while working only in List view.
