According to the Number Resource Organization (NRO), the stock of IP addresses has dropped below the critical level of 10%.
The forecast made by the organization last year said that the supply of IPv4 addresses is expected to run out in 2011, however, judging by the current data on the growth rate of registration of new addresses, everything indicates that this is most likely to occur in 2012.
Nevertheless, the head of the NRO, Axel Poulik (Axel Pawlik) urges Internet service providers to global transition to IPv6 as quickly as possible, to make it smoother and more painless and thus avoid possible complications during the transition in a hurry in 2011.
According to him, the postponement of the transition to the new protocol by many companies is due to high financial costs. Nevertheless, it will be somehow inevitable by 2011.
