Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory has created a truly unique product - a digital camera with a resolution of 570 megapixels.

Naturally, the creation of this camera was not built only on pure enthusiasm. The camera was created for scientists, astronomers and astrophysicists, working within the framework of the astrophysical experiment
Dark Energy Survey , which in turn is engaged in searching and studying the phenomena of dark energy and matter.

More than $ 35 million was spent on the creation of the camera, and the camera's photodetector consists of 74 separate CCD-arrays and has a diameter of just over 1 meter.

This camera will be mounted on a telescope in one of the Fermilab observatories located in Chile, and over the next five years, enormous work will be carried out, in the form of a detailed survey of more than 300 million of the most distant galaxies, and the subsequent analysis of all the pictures taken. Which, according to scientists from Fermilab, will give a reliable answer to their assumption that it is the black energy that is “guilty” of the accelerated expansion of the Universe.
