Google has started to upgrade the file system on their servers. Previously, we tested three XFS, EXT4, and JFS file systems in terms of speed. It turned out that with the Google loads EXT4 and XFS show approximately the same result, but for ease of upgrade from the existing EXT2, it was EXT4 that was chosen. This was reported by the company’s employees in a specialized EXT4 newsletter.
Reportedly, the migration is already 50% complete, but the most difficult thing remains: transferring the most demanding applications to the new file system, including Gmail ( ″ ext4 is already moving ).
Especially for the final stage of the upgrade, a well-known activist of the Linux-community Ted T'so , who is also the main developer of the EXT2, EXT3 and EXT4 file systems, was invited to google.
