Skype has announced the beginning of support for video calls via Skype on a PC in high-definition mode (720p HD), and also that the software will be integrated into widescreen TVs that have access to the Internet.

The latest version of Skype for Windows is capable of providing video calls in HD mode, with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels, up to 30 frames per second, giving users the option of video calling with even more saturated colors and smooth color transitions.

In order to make a video call in high definition mode, users will need a high-speed broadband Internet connection, a new webcam that supports HD mode, a PC with a 1.8 GHz dual-core processor and Skype 4.2 Beta for Windows.

“With Skype video calls in HD, we’ll be able to help our users get even closer to their families through more intense, more complete communication via video calls,” said Josh Silverman, general manager of Skype . “Thanks to the innovations of Skype engineers and our hardware partners, this has now become possible without the need to purchase expensive equipment or software.”
