Domain owners will be returned three cents.

ICANN agreed to reduce the cost of a registrar transaction (Registrar Transaction Fee) from 25 cents to 22 cents. The most interesting is that the new tariff was introduced retroactively from July 1, 2006. Thus, the owner of any domain will receive a return of three cents for each domain that he registered or renewed after July 1, 2006. For example, Go Daddy clients will immediately receive this money at their own expense from the registrar - all of them have been sent letters about it.

Experts explain why tariffs changed almost a year ago come into effect only now in hindsight. The explanation is simple: bureaucracy. Last summer, there was a problem: ICANN first sent registrars for approval rates of 25 cents, and then lowered them. Registrars received notification of this only in March 2007, so now they will all return to customers three cents (this is a lot of money, don't waste everything at once!).

So far, only the largest registrar, Go Daddy, has announced a refund, but the rest should follow his example.
