AMD Brook +: Rest in Peace

It seemed that yesterday I wrote an article about high-performance computing on AMD video cards using Brook + technology . Then she looked optimistic, albeit with some children's problems ...

Earlier this year, AMD released the release of the 2nd version of its Stream Computing SDK. I happily went to update and recompile my software in the hope of getting some troubles that prevented me, but ...

It turned out that AMD “released” Brook + to free floating: Brook + is no longer being developed or supported by AMD.
')
Now this is an open source project with very vague prospects. At the moment there are only 1.4.1 binaries for Linux, nothing for Windows. What is most regrettable, they do not speak loudly about it, in the FAQ and What's New there is no information that just half of the SDK was thrown out

Now the flagship technology of high performance computing is OpenCL, and there is hope that this time everything will go much better.

Ps. AMD's OpenCL supports computing on a processor with SSE3, which promises to give good speed.

That's how technology is dying ... I woke up - and it's already gone ...
