I really wanted to make my system unit quiet so that, despite working in 24/7 mode, I wouldn’t get warm, and I could only hear music and no extraneous noise. No sooner said than done!

We work.

To modify, I had a system based on the AMD Athlon X2 + m / b Biostar on a 690G chip (integrated video, there are no fans on the south / north bridge ) with one memory module per gigabyte.

1. CPU cooling

Changing the CPU cooling system is paramount! The choice fell on the creation of Scythe - Ninja 2 . I decided not to save on the size and immediately take the biggest * fool *. We give to our friend the old GlacialTech, we arm KPT-8 and plant a huge radiator (when it just got out of the box it was in shock from the dimensions) into place.
We observe the temperature: it’s great, it’s not hot at all in the passive (the average processor temperature is ~ 30 degrees ), to fix the result we lower the voltage on the processor and forget about it for good.

2. BP

Fanless power supplies are expensive, the standard 400-watt PSU without a blower did not dare to leave, just change the fan for a less fast and noisy from Ninja. Remove the casing, remove the grille (why interfere with the air flow on the way, and we will not put our hands there without that) and insert a new 120mm propeller. So, how to fix and connect? Everything is in order: we will mount on IceHammera silicone pins , they will be very useful, a myth or not, but less vibrations are expected; Connect via a homemade 5 volt adapter to the motherboard will be much quieter ( ~ 800 RPM ).

3. HDD and drive.

Now the WD320AAKS hard drive is very audible - to hell with it! We will not chase after the speed and we will deliver WD10EADS Green Power , very well and the place is full.
The drive in our arsenal is old, but SATA, of course, it makes a lot of noise when working, but who uses it now? But there are no wide IDE loops that are always interfering :)

4. Housing.

The body, it is good and big, but you need to solve something with it! Frankly, with a thick frame and walls, he rattled, not much, but I heard. We will fight. In the auto shop we buy a couple of sheets of vibration absorber - Kicx Exclusive 4 (the front covering of the material is aluminum foil, the base is a self-adhesive mastic composition, thickness - 4.0 ± 0.4 mm), and we get a roll of felt from the mezzanine (2 mm). We insulate the side walls in one layer, the bottom, top, and front walls in two layers, on top of a felt on a double-sided tape. Collected, admiring silence :)

Result.
