On December 30, Linux.org.Ru
posted the news that the cross-platform package of
Fidonet programs, called
fidoip , was recently included
GoldED-NSF , a special version of the popular GoldED +
fidmail editor, which allows you to go to
FGHI URLs as hyperlinks. This means that
hypertext Fidonet support has been added to fidoip.
To fully understand the significance of this news, it is enough to open the window of
GoldED-NSF or even its previous
version - NoSFeRaTU's GoldED + (see the figure on the right). As you can see, not only Web URLs
(“http: //”), but Fidonet URLs
(“area: //”) are also highlighted in the text of the mail being viewed
, but also Fidonet URLs
, which can also be accessed; and under the heading of each letter
(in a bright crimson color) the address bar is lit, from which the Fidonet URL can be copied.
How to compare this achievement?
')
In terms of its expressive capabilities, echomail in hypertext Fidonet (as of the beginning of 2010) most closely resembles modern Internet microblogs: there is text, there are hyperlinks, and there is nothing more. However, unlike microblogging, echomail uses distributed storage and accepts fairly large messages
(for example, up to 64 kilobytes if you take into account the limitations of FastEcho ; for comparison, you can specify that the same size is the size of the blog in LiveJournal ).The web as a whole was such twenty years ago - before the advent of
ViolaWWW and Mosaic .
The development of Fidonet will continue, and for the time being I recommend reading four pages of comments
on LOR : there are funny, there are not
without interest.
