From 2012, the world can switch to a new calendar.

The initiative to replace the current Gregorian calendar with a new one was made by the influential World Calendar Association. Its head, Wayne Richardson, did not rule out that in 2012 the world would switch to a new calendar, abandoning the current one, introduced in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII.

In the current calendar, 365 days, however, a leap year has 366 days. Another disadvantage is that quarters have a different number of days and thus make economic activity difficult.

The association offers a new kind of calculus. Its project, called “Y2K”, is based on a version of the world calendar, which was hardly approved by the United Nations in the 1950s.

The proposed calendar contains 365 days, but in each year that begins on Sunday, there is one additional day, the second Saturday. The coming year, starting with Sunday - 2012. Richardson said that the association will do everything necessary so that the new calendar will be introduced by all countries of the world by this date.

At the same time, an alternative project appeared - the Symmetry-454 calendar. It was developed by a well-known specialist and professor at the Canadian University of Toronto, Ivr Bromberg.

The idea of a symmetrical calendar is that each new month starts on Monday. However, the charge for this is an increase in the number of days - up to 35 for four months: February, May, August and November. At the same time, the number of days for all other months is reduced to 28.

Now these calendars are examined by experts who will send their findings to the UN. The latter has the necessary powers to abandon the current Gregorian calendar and the introduction of a new one. It is reported by ITAR-TASS.
