Gamers generation

From a pragmatic point of view, any hobby or hobby that in the future develops into a skill should bring some benefit, including in monetary terms. For example, I was fond of cycling for a long time and now opened a bicycle workshop, or if I do not have the proper entrepreneurial abilities, but I develop my body by cycling. In any case, there will be a benefit.

It is also worth mentioning that having a good time is not a benefit. I suggest you look at it from a different angle, namely, to divide any activity into two components:

For example, if I watch movies just to have a good time, then there will be no gain, and the pleasure from the process is great. Although it can be argued, watching movies broadens the mind in a sense. You can still give examples of passion for music, which has grown into something serious. Or not monetary gain - I do kickboxing to stand up for myself. I pull the glands to feel more confident and attractive.

But let's talk about gaming. From the age of 5 I have my personal computer, which I use not only for scientific and educational purposes. I know by heart the Starcraft universe, Jim Raynor , the traitor to Mengsk , Sarah Kerrigan . I know the half-life universe, my idols are Gordon Freeman and the mysterious G-man , I love Barney Calhoun and Adrian Shepard . Instead of disassembling cars, players, radio, etc., I disassembled packs with graphics and scripts. I always thought about the plot of the game and its meaning, imbued with the low-poly atmosphere of the world of Zen .

What are the prospects for such a hobby as gaming? How do games affect our lives? Of course, what player does not dream of creating games? So you’ve got the perspective - I’ve been playing, now I’m creating it myself. But let us think how big is the chance of an average gamer with his knowledge in development to become a game developer? Let's face it - it tends to zero.

But tell me, why are we playing then? Fun for the poor? Find me at least one utility other than the development of reflexes (and that is doubtful), and with pure soul I will also play with friends in the evenings. Perhaps there are no worthy alternatives or their complete absence ...

UPD. You can become a programmer without the help of games. Games are only the fruit of programming, which can serve as a motivation to become a programmer. But still, why play them? That is the question.
