2009 is over, a new decade begins, with which I heartily congratulate all readers! P2P has become one of the important phenomena of the past decade, and its popularity is not going to decrease. For example, in 2009, two TV shows - Heroes and Dexter - the number of downloads exceeded the number of television views . In Russia, p2p file sharing can be said to have appeared in the past decade. Some trends pass by us, something becomes more popular than in the world (ICQ, Opera browser), which appeared in 1999, Napster in general passed by us, like LimeWire, and the first popular P2P protocol was ed2k , whose official client has long been closed, but there are alternatives like eMule.

The explosive growth in the popularity of bittorrenta occurred in 2006, when (or somewhere from the end of 2005) unlimited Internet began to appear in large cities. The trackers then struggled to cope with the increase in load, the same torrents.ru worked with a very large squeak (there was a period when he had been working for almost a month, there was no month). In those days, file sharing like Rapidshare was still more popular than the torrent, which at the beginning was not very fast. It is not enough peers, especially distributing on wide channels, therefore it turned out faster to download film with a pack of archives broken on 100 megabytes from file hosting sites than from a torrent.

Not all old trackers have survived to our days, some are more dead than alive (for example, torrent.e2k.ru , it appeared in 2004, maybe even earlier torrents.ru). But a lot of new ones appeared, and there are more and more of them. One of the peculiarities of the Russian torrent industry is the great popularity of closed trackers, with registration, taking into account downloaded and given, and restrictions for those who donate much less than they download. In the English-language Internet, the opposite is true; the largest trackers are open, without registration and restrictions.

I tried to make a rating of torrent trackers of the RuNet, perhaps not complete, I could forget someone or simply not know. Not all trackers have statistics, and I could not find out the number of peers and torrents on them. Dates of "birth" trackers are indicated approximately.
