For the first time in Russia - competition Imagine Cup Embedded Development
The Imagine Cup competition includes several competitions, among which is the embedded systems competition , in which a team of 3 people needs to develop a software and hardware solution based on an eBox device running Windows Embedded CE .
GOOD NEWS: this year's Embedded Systems Competition will be held in Russia! This means that among all the Russian participating teams, the winning team will be selected, which will go to the international finals in Warsaw together with the Software Design team! Now is the best time to participate in the competition - never before have the chances of qualifying for the international final were so high ! Submission of initial applications - by January 15, 2010 . The competition in Russia will be held in 2 stages . At the first stage, it is necessary before January 15,2010 to submit an application with a description of the project, drawn up according to the model given here . The application is made in Russian (short description) and in English, a total of about 6-7 pages of text, and describes the intended solution, both in terms of the idea (matching the topic of the competition, the rationality of using embedded solutions, etc.), and architecturally. The sample application lists the main questions that need to be answered. The application must be sent to us by e-mail ( rusacad (at) microsoft (dot) com ), as well as upload on imagine cup (before registering and selecting Embedded Development as a competition in the profile ). All questions on the writing of the application can be asked in the comments to this entry or by the above e-mail. You can read the latest news about the competition on Twitter by Dmitry Soshnikov , curator of the Imagine Cup in Russia (questions and comments on Twitter are also welcome). ')
According to these applications, the jury will select 5 teams , which will be provided with eBox-3310A-MSJK devices ( approximately such , the stated average market value is about $ 450) for the development of the embedded system. These 5 projects will be presented by the participants personally at the Russian final of the Imagine Cup in mid-April 2010 (Microsoft provides travel for the participants to the venue of the final and accommodation). There will also be selected one winning team, which will represent Russia at the international final in Warsaw in the summer of 2010.
In addition, all applicants will receive encouraging prizes - a set of books on Windows Embedded from the company Quarta Technologies , which act as a partner of the competition in Russia. We hope that these books will help you to better prepare for the competition. Also very useful would be a course on embedded systems in the Internet University INTUIT, which we have already written about .
We call for the participation in the competition of all enthusiasts who are able to hold a soldering iron in their hands , although it is possible to successfully participate in competition with a purely software solution. The competition will be interesting to fans of robotics, because Windows Embedded is a good platform for developing robots.
By the way, to participate and win in Embedded Development is not so difficult. Last year, the team of VMK MSUwas among the 15 best teams in the world in this competition and participated in the international final . On Habré already detailed video reports from the competition of the last year were given . Then the third place in the world was taken by the fraternal team from Ukraine, and the first place - the team that made the device for efficiently growing a certain type of worms - the embedded system was used to maintain a certain temperature and humidity conditions and monitor the viability of the inhabitants. A picture of the winning system is shown above.
What do you think, what is the actual problem of our time solved this device ?
