The largest online store Amazon.com
reported that one day the first time sales of electronic books exceeded sales of paper books. It happened on December 25, 2009, at Christmas. After that, Kindle officially became the most popular gift in the history of the Amazon.com store.
Why e-books were bought so much exactly on December 25th is understandable. On this day, tens of thousands of happy recipients of Christmas gifts (Kindle) all went together to buy something to read. At the same time, paper books on this day are sold little (ordinary people are not up to shopping). However, specificity does not make this historical achievement less significant.
The Kindle Store contains more than 390,000 book titles, and Amazon controls the lion’s share of the e-book market in the US and has already begun
to dictate its terms to publishers about pricing.
