Sun Microsystems will help port OpenOffice.org to Mac OS X

Philipp Lohmann, one of the developers of Sun Microsystems, wrote in his blog that Sun would support porting to the Mac / Aqua platform.

In fact, the porting history of OpenOffice.org on Mac OS X began with the release of the office suite itself. Initially it was even supposed to immediately make a native version for Mac (cocoa version), but it was decided to make a port for X11 as the first step, - OpenOffice.org already has several X11 ports - that is, quickly create a temporary solution.

Sun Microsystems' interest in porting OpenOffice.org to Mac OS X is the increasing prevalence of Apple computers, especially laptops, which are now easy to see among passengers at airports or visitors to conferences. Apple has a significant computer market share, which is simply impossible to ignore. Sun supports porting because of the interest and activity of the community that wants to see this port.
