Tightening the rules for registering domains in China

In December, three “gifts” from the authorities appeared on the Chinese Internet:

1. Registration of domain names by individuals is prohibited. Anyone who wants to register a domain in the .cn zone must now obtain a special permit from the China Information Internet Center and provide a license for commercial activities.

2. Access to almost all large torrent trackers was closed due to the fact that they did not have the right to distribute content without a license. Here, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has been advancing.

3. Established a reward of 10 thousand yuan ($ 1,465) for the denunciation of a resource distributing pornography. I haven’t found any feedback on the fact that someone has received money in this way, but the step itself is very radical.

Now, a representative of the Ministry of Industrial and Information Technologies of the country said that the rules for registering domains have been further tightened. As before, the reason for this move was declared the fight against the spread of pornography and illegal content. In addition, the blacklist of former owners of prohibited resources will be updated to prevent them from re-registering their sites. December 20, the new rules were published on the website of the Ministry of China.

Obviously, it is China’s intention to fully return the serious attitude of search engines to sites in the domain zone of the country and finally get rid of the dominance of doorways and adult sites left over from old times.
