It may be necessary to turn on / off / restart a PC in an inaccessible place or at a remote distance. This could be a neighbor’s game server, a “home server in a storage room” or a local small office servac under a pile of wires. Or maybe just natural laziness doesn’t allow you to get off the couch and press a button, but sit down at the PC loaded and ready for work, oh, what a hunt :)
Under the cut on a simple example, I will try to tell and show how this can be done. The system of radio channel security systems will be taken as the basis.
First of all, we will get acquainted with such systems, there are many of them, they may have different properties, but the principle of operation is the same, I took two of the most common ones:
1.

altonika-shop.ru/RR_1R')
As some may have already guessed, these are alarming key rings that can often be found at security guards in stores.
So, the system consists of a radio charm (transmitter) and a receiver - a certain device that receives a signal from the transmitter and accordingly reacts to it, usually by turning on an internal output relay.
All we need is such a system, a soldering iron, a power button on the PC or a reset button, the choice depends on the goal.

Solder the wires connected to the relay output of the receiver to the right places, as shown in the diagram.

Thus, when a button is pressed on the key fob, the receiver briefly closes the contacts of the internal output relay simulating a button pressed on the case. You can power the receiver with any power supply with a 12 volt output, some enthusiasts can take power from the PC itself :) If there is enough free space, the device can be installed directly in the system unit's case, however, communication may deteriorate over long distances. The range of the system is about 30-100 meters, which is quite enough. If you have enough imagination and enthusiasm, then using similar schemes you can manage almost anything using even multi-channel systems.
