Careful when buying iPhones with the latest firmware and updated bootloader (bootrom).

I recently purchased the newest iPhone 3GS on eBay, which was originally sold with a German T-Mobile contract. This is the 3rd device I purchased with a compass and double acceleration, i.e. with the prefix [S]. I was counting on using, like last time, the excellent
Blackra1n program. But it was not there…

Usually, the process is quite simple: insert a SIM card, connect it to a computer, install updates via iTunes, and run after downloading the latest version of Blackra1n, with which you can make Unlock and Jailbreak.

Like last time did everything exactly the same. But what was my surprise when, after the reboot, the iPhone did not load, but again demanded to connect it to iTunes. Nothing helped. The phone did not respond.

After trying the whole procedure again, I got into Google. Without going into details and looking ahead, I will say that there is currently no solution to this problem. After each reboot, you need to reconnect to the computer and run Blackra1n. This procedure is called “tethered jailbreak” and is only necessary for the new generation iPhone 3GS. Apparently, Apple reacted to a too simple jailbreak and began producing devices with a new loader around the 40th week of 2009 (ie, from the end of September). How to determine when your iPhone was released? Very simply, the numbers 4 and 5 of the serial number are the issue number of the week. The serial number can be found in Settings> General> About. So, for example, serial 88341MPXXX tells us that our iPhone was made on the 41st week and most likely would require a tethered jailbreak.
In conclusion, advice: if you want to avoid problems and not be afraid of a complete discharge of the battery or the hang of your iPhone, requiring a reboot, try to get an older device. You make your life much easier.

rastych for the
link . Perhaps more complete information. It is a pity that I did not find it immediately.
