Correctly choose DNS

Many probably use the DNS offered by the provider. However, you probably heard about opening access to your Google servers? Yes, and other projects (OpenDNS, UltraDNS, etc.) in the field itself exist. So let's try to figure out why we need it and does it make any sense for an ordinary user to use alternative DNS?

We will talk about the program namebench (Win, Mac, * nix) , which is a tool for testing current and choosing the best DNS-servers. Curiously, it was not without the help of Google.

The program will determine the DNS that you use by default (you can add any manually) and test them along with the public available servers. To determine the best server for you, the story is taken from your browser. Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari and IE are supported. You can also feed for the Alexa Top 10000 test. We set the parameters (the higher the number of requests, the more reliable the result is, theoretically), we start it and leave it for some time alone.

Well, the most interesting test results:

So what do we see? In my case (in the article I used screenshots from the project page) the increase in response speed for the best server found compared to that used (one large Moscow provider) was about 70..100% Someone may have more then less. But what does this give us? Purely subjectively I can say that the pages began to open a little faster, all other things being equal. Or maybe it's just a placebo effect. I wonder your opinion.
