Yesterday, the Scandinavian company TeliaSonera
began testing the world's first 4G communication network on the LTE (Long Term Evolution) standard, which is an alternative to the WiMAX standard. Theoretically, LTE provides speeds of up to 326.4 Mbps (download) and 172.8 Mbps (upload), but TeliaSonera’s download speeds range from 20 to 80 Mbps.
Only central areas of Oslo and Stockholm are covered. During 2010, it is planned to cover 25 largest cities in Sweden and four cities in Norway. In addition, TeliaSonera also has a Finnish license at 2.6 GHz.
The 4G network in Stockholm is built on Ericsson equipment, and in Oslo - on Huawei. End users are given Samsung USB modems. There are no LTE phones on the market yet.
In Sweden, 4G will be launched from July 1, 2010 at a price of 599 CZK per month (about $ 83, 30 GB of traffic is included, the modem is sold separately). Until this time, the test operation period continues with a symbolic subscription fee of 4 SEK per month.

In Norway, the monthly fee will be 699 NOK per month (about $ 103, the same 30 GB per month, modem separately). Until April 1, 2010 is testing (1 Norwegian krone per month).
