Energy by air: soon available

A little more than a year ago, scientists from Intel and the University of Massachusetts presented a finished project of a power transmission system based on the phenomenon of resonant electromagnetic induction. And now WiTricity (the system was called so) is not just a prototype or an idea waiting for its million investments, but a real commercial project. The eponymous company WiTricity stated that it is ready for the commercialization of technology that will provide wireless power to technology, from gadgets to electric vehicles, with a power consumption from hundreds of milliwatts to tens of kilowatts.

WiTricity representatives' statements are not empty words. The company has already managed to enter into OEM agreements with consumer electronics manufacturers and is now actively engaged in licensing. Moreover, according to the WiTricity guide, the first devices with the possibility of recharging "by air" or wireless power will appear in 2010: the shipment of components (receivers and transmitters) has already begun.

It is important that WiTricity pays close attention to security. First, the technology of energy transfer uses electromagnetic waves in the range from 300 kHz to 20 MHz, which is considered safe for human health. In addition, all devices equipped with new technology will have to undergo WiTricity quality control.
