Currently, there are a huge number of programs on the Internet that allow you to transcode video to view it on your iPhone / iPod. In this review I will try to highlight the most popular, to talk about their advantages and disadvantages. Details under the cut.
I apologize if something is wrong, my first topic on habrahabr :)
It should immediately be said that only free programs were considered for the reason that I personally do not see much point in using paid applications, all other things being equal.
1) Movies2iPhone

Benefits:
1. Low program weight (2.7Mb)
2. The interface allows you to overtake the video in the format for the iPhone in almost one click;
3. The program will even understand the child :)
Disadvantages:
1. Somewhat poor interface;
2. The absence of any settings, bit rate, resolution and other things.
')
The program will recommend to all those who appreciate simplicity and do not want to bother with the settings.

Benefits:
1. Convenient, although at first a bit unusual interface
2. Many settings
3. Possibility of recoding in one click
4. There are versions for both Windows and MacOS.
Disadvantages:
1. A fairly large program weight (~ 18Mb)
A very good converter that combines a fairly large number of settings and a cozy, albeit somewhat confusing interface.

1. Simple intuitive interface
2. Several preset settings
Disadvantages:
1. For such a small amount of settings, the weight of the installation file is quite large (~ 11Mb)

herePersonally, my choice: Videora iPod Converter
PS I will also mention one not quite standard converter, which most probably already heard about: Badaboom. Suitable for owners of NVidia 8800 and higher ... Handles video by video card GPU, and not through the central processor. The speed at 8800 gts is about one and a half times more than if I convert it with other programs (processor E4500).
