Co-location or Collocation?

Currently, hundreds of hosting companies offer their customers the service of "hosting the server" in their technology sites. This service has gained immense popularity due to its availability and efficiency. At the same time, the vast majority of hosters that provide this service, refused to use the understandable Russian term “Server Location” and replaced it with Overseas “Sollocation”.

At present, the question still remains open, how to correctly write a borrowed word:

"Co-location" / "Colocation" or "Collocation".

')

As can be seen from the comparison, the main problem is to use one or two letters "L" in the spelling of a word.

If we turn to the dry statistics figures, it turns out that the Google search engine finds 3,640,000 sites for the “Colocation” query, and only 532,000 for the Collocation query.

It would seem that the answer to the above question is obvious. Especially if we assume that “colocation” is a derivative of the words “cooperative” and “location”. However, this assumption is wrong!

If you refer to such respected dictionaries as the Oxford English Dictionary and Webster's English Dictionary, it turns out that the term denoting “placing something” originated from the Latin word “collocare” (lat. “Place together”), and two letters "L" when properly spelled.

Using the correct spelling of the word “Collocation” when selling your services or following the erroneous majority opinion is a personal matter.

However, in our opinion, the only correct way out in this situation is to use the phrase “Server Placement”, without cluttering up our great and mighty unnecessary, and, moreover, erroneous borrowings.
