HackDay # 2 in St. Petersburg: 26 IT projects over the weekend!

The event, a new format for Russia, this time brought together more than 300 people from Moscow, Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg.



The goal of HackDay2 was to develop IT projects from scratch to prototypes over the weekend. The work began on Saturday morning and ended with the demofest on Sunday evening - the presentation of projects developed by the participants in two days.



In total, more than 70 projects were announced, 26 of them reached the demofest and were presented to the public. (In the past, HackDay on demofesta had only 11 projects !) The venue was provided by SPSU ITMO . The event was supported by Yahoo! , EMC Corporation , Marva , DevExperts , Yota , McHost and Sun Microsystems . Thank them very much for this!



After the demofest, one questionnaire was issued for each project. It was necessary to mark which projects the participants liked the most. According to the results of this vote was awarded. We gave different useful things: a roast coffee maker, McHost hosting and domain names in the .ru zone, a wireless keyboard with a mouse, headphones, gifts from Sun Microsystems, T-shirts with the logo of the event. In the framework of HackDay2 passed 9 workshops. Anton Volnukhin (Yandex) gave a master class on API Yandex. Blogs, Gleb Kaplun gave a lecture on technology entrepreneurship, Sergey Sek (LG Consulting) held a master class on copyright. There were workshops on JavaScript, JavaFX, SQL injections, iPhone, MAEMO and content management. All presentations have already been posted.



The format attracts new people, which means that it lives, and we can hope for new projects and start-ups that will emerge at such events. Participants made many interesting projects. Therefore, during the voting I personally found it very difficult to give preference to only a few of them, I would like to mention about a third.



Mikhail Kechinov (one of the organizers): “I liked the great variety of projects and the fact that many people did not focus on monetization - they did projects for the soul and self-development, and not to sell the share to an investor faster. Of course, there were projects that could earn money — that was also good. I am pleased with the fact that more than two dozen projects have reached the end of the event. ”



Next HackDay we plan to spend with a smaller scale and thematic. A similar large-scale will be held around May.



We are interested in spreading the movement throughout Russia and the CIS and are ready to share experience and best practices.
