google life search

Yesterday Google announced Live Search

So what is it and how to use it? Has the search become more relevant and user friendly? How to get to it, where to enter a query to see live results?

The algorithm is still being run around and so far it only works fully for English-language queries. You enter a query of interest and see in the search results in the middle of the page a section of the Latest result for “your query”. You can try to enter your request here .

')

For example, the Obama request. Around the middle of the page you can see the Last Results block, which are updated in real time.

New results for Obama's request are constantly updated and added to the search results. If this “running line” is annoying, you can pause by clicking on “Pause”, but you cannot completely remove the “live search” from the results.

Adam Smith, a Google employee who manages the development of a real-time search system, says that not all requests will see constantly updated information: “if we receive high-quality information on this request, we will show it, no — not so”

Thus, if Google believes that it has high-quality information in real time, it will display it in a block. In particular, if Google sees a surge of information on some topic, as well as an increase in requests on this topic - google believes that the requested event is just happening at the moment and it makes sense to display information on this event at the moment.

If you click on the latest results link, you will be taken to a page with a list of search in real time.

Where do the results come from?

- tweets from twitter

- google news

- google blog search

- just created web pages

- just updated web pages

- FriendFeed updates

- Jaiku updates

- Identi.ca updates

- TwitArmy updates

Soon they promise to include updates from FaceBook and MySpace, but only updates from those users who will be allowed to publish their updates in free access. At the moment there is an agreement with the services, but the results in the capture does not appear.

By the way, Bing already has a data transfer agreement with FaceBook, but for now does not use search results. But Bing has no agreement with MySpace.

How is the information ranked? Google says that only highly relevant information can be included in a special block of live search. Thus, spamming tweets, pages with low quality content and govnosayty will not fall into the block of live search. (Google knows how to weed them out.) After filtering out the “bad” pages, the ordering happens by time.

You can switch from viewing all results (All results) to viewing only news, topics from blogs or updates (twitter?), Filtering out unnecessary information.

Of course, there are already live search interfaces for Android and iPhone.

Google says that so far it has no intention to create a separate page for real-time search (as there is a search for blogs, pictures or news), but now there is a page that is configured to search for information in real time

Hot topics that in this moment excite the English-speaking world can be found here.

And lastly Kintso from Google:

Google could exist without real-time search, but with it the information is more complete and faster. People, getting into various scraps, will write about this to their blog / microblog faster than professional media make a report about it. Tsunamis, fires, the state of the ski slopes, user reviews of new films - all this information appears in blogs faster than in the news.
