Now it's easier for developers to create new applications for Symbian, Maemo and other platforms.
Oslo, December 1 - Nokia released
Qt 4.6 , the latest version of the framework for creating cross-platform applications and user interfaces. The new release features new support for the platform, new powerful graphics capabilities,
support for multi-touch devices, and support for gestures. Qt 4.6 makes the development of "advanced" applications and devices easier and more convenient.
Qt 4.6 for the first time includes support for the
Symbian platform, as well as the
Windows 7 platform
, Apple Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and the upcoming Maemo 6 . Community support for QNX and VxWorks real-world operating systems is also available. Maemo 5 support is under development and is available in the second technology preview.
Also released is a technology preview of the
new API for the Qt Mobility project . This is a cross-platform API that allows developers to use more functionality for mobile devices, such as positioning for devices with navigation support.

Qt 4.6 is based on the graphical capabilities of version 4.5, but a new Animation Framework has been added to it, as well as new modern graphical effects, such as transparency, shadows, glow, and filters.
Another interesting innovation in version 4.6 is the
ability to create multi-touch applications .
The major performance improvements have affected the rendering algorithm in Qt GraphicsView, the new display engine OpenGL, WebKit, support for two-dimensional vector graphics using the OpenVG library and support for the new DirectFB.
The updates affected not only Qt, but also the Qt Creator cross-platform development environment.
