I got an interesting device here, with a nameplate of a well-known software company. At the moment, there is no point in using it for its intended purpose. In this regard, the question arises - what to do with this piece of iron? Waiting for your suggestions in the comments.

The server motherboard is a custom-made product made by Fujitsu for Trendmicro. Disc-on-Chip modules manufactured by Fujitsu are used as a boot disk. A pair of hard drives (manufactured by guess who) apparently used for storing logs and other information.

TTH:
- 2x Intel Xeon 2.8Ghz s604
- 4gb ddr1
- 2x 40gb HDD
- 5x LAN (Gigabit Ethernet)
- 1x COM port (console)
- 2x PS \ 2 for mouse and keyboard
Although the piece of iron is old, it is relatively productive and can solve some useful tasks, but the processors do not support hardware virtualization, which slightly reduces the value as a hypervisor. The small amount of memory and disk space again does not contribute to the use of the server for any serious tasks, in addition to the web server.

The most interesting and problematic is that the server does not have a built-in video adapter, and booting from an external one is disabled in the BIOS, which can only be accessed through a graphical interface. We tried to connect PCI and PCI-E video cards both directly and through a fujitsu riser - zero sense. There is an option with a magic USB video card, for example,
like this , however, this option seems doubtful to me.

Therefore, there is a problem with reinstalling the system, which is either considered as a live-cd of some kind of nickname distribution, or a pre-installed hypervisor, for example ESXi. It should also be borne in mind that the system is loaded with Disk-on-Chip, and the BIOS can disable the ability to boot from a 40-gig mirror. To correct the bios is again not realistic.
Of course, it would be possible to purchase hard drives, memory ... or replace the motherboard at all ... However, I want to do without a little blood, without spending any money (which were already hopelessly merged into the riser). A gift horse as they say ...
Possible uses:
- Web server for internal needs - IMHO, a waste of resources
- Megarouter - after all 5 interfaces
- Torrentokachalkal - requires the purchase of screws
- VPN gateway
- Cisco emulators on Dynamips
- Disassemble coffee coasters
- Smash with a hammer and put the video on YouTube - it's a pity ...
- Make him a voip-ats
Help appropriate to use a piece of iron. Waiting for your ideas in the comments.
The most interesting idea will be implemented and covered in detail in Habré.
upd: Application options from the comments are highlighted by the Bold.
Thank you all for interesting ideas, we think further. The most reasonable action was suggested by
jean , who was not too lazy to find the manual for the device and suggested to override the BIOS, and also showed the ability to configure it through the console port. Thank you, habrachelovek.

It can be considered a small victory. Alas, I did not find the BIOS parameters responsible for the video card.
