The owners of Mail.ru portal yesterday reported on their financial results for the first half of the year (April-September 2009). Oddly enough, the results were pretty successful (
PDF ). Moreover, in terms of revenue, Mail.ru came in second place among all RuNet portals, pushing out Rambler.
For six months, Mail.ru earned 1.028 billion rubles. (+ 30.7% over the same period last year), while the Rambler revenues decreased to 1.019 billion (-17.5%). It’s hard to compare with Yandex because this company hasn’t disclosed its financial statements yet, but there the numbers are about four times higher (at least last year there was such a ratio). That is, Yandex is out of competition.
EBITDA profit at Mail.ru increased by 19% to 518 million rubles.
What makes a mail portal? Still, more than half of the income comes from banner advertising (55%), although its share is gradually decreasing. Another 22% brought contextual advertising, and revenues from affiliate programs - 11%.

For Mail.ru owners, this half year has become particularly joyful, because the company paid dividends for the first time, Vedomosti reports. As it is known, 53.2% of Mail.ru shares belong to DST and oligarch Alisher Usmanov, and another 42.9% belong to South African company Naspers.
