Scientists predict extremely high solar activity by 2011-2012

According to the forecasts of scientists, the peak of future solar activity will be at the end of 2011 - the beginning of 2012, and during this period our star may be so active that its emissions will significantly affect the operation of electrical and navigation devices on Earth.

According to European and American astronomers, from 90 to 140 new spots will appear on the Sun during the period of the highest activity. Experts point out that during the peak there will be two particularly strong spikes, which, according to calculations, will occur in October 2011 and August 2012.

“Today we are talking about relative terms, but in 6-12 months we can be more precise,” said Douglas Beseker, a specialist at the Center for the Study of Cosmic Phenomena in Colorado (USA).

Astronomers recall that, on average, between 75 and 155 sunspots are observed on the Sun during peak solar activity.

It is also during the peaks that the greatest emission of solar radiation and the coronary mass of the Sun occurs.

It is noteworthy that the forecasts of solar activity every year are increasingly demanded by a large number of companies, since they have at their disposal more and more high-precision electronics exposed to the luminaries, moreover, more and more users resort to using satellites in the business, which will also be exposed to the sun.

Thus, according to preliminary estimates, today the total cost of satellites in orbit is about 200 billion dollars.
